Newsletters

Four extents, built lighter than magazines because they are mailed in volume and read once. On a large mailing the stock decision is really a postage decision. Filter by how much each issue has to carry.

How to choose
between them

Four pages is one folded sheet, needs no stitching and forces the editing most newsletters benefit from. Move to eight when you are cutting material you would rather keep or shrinking type to fit. Both mean the extent is wrong, and eight costs less than twice four because much of the setup is already paid for. Sixteen pages needs a contents page, because past about twelve readers stop holding the structure in their head.

Most newsletters exist to be mailed, and that shapes the artwork. A self-mailer needs a clear addressing panel with the postal zones kept free of print, which is the stage that decides whether a run can actually be posted. We can print addresses directly from your spreadsheet in mailing sequence, which is usually cheaper than the labeling labor it replaces. A perforated reply slip is the cheapest way to make the whole thing measurable.
