Clear vinyl lets the glass show through around the printed graphic, while white or opaque vinyl works better when the design needs to stand out against a busy background. They're common on storefronts, vehicle windows and glass doors where signage needs to read clearly from outside without a visible sticker edge.

Printing for glass involves a few decisions that don't come up with a standard sticker on a flat opaque surface. The first is material transparency: clear vinyl lets whatever is behind the glass show through around the artwork, which works well for logos or text where the background doesn't interfere with legibility. White or opaque vinyl blocks that background entirely, which is usually the better choice when the design has fine detail, small text, or needs to stand out regardless of what's happening on the other side of the glass.
The second decision is which side of the glass the sticker goes on. Applying from the inside protects the print from weather and vandalism and is standard for storefronts and vehicle windows, but it means artwork facing outward needs to be mirrored before printing so it reads correctly once flipped into place. Applying to the outside is more common for short-term or promotional stickers where protection matters less than ease of application and removal.
One-way vision material is a specific option worth knowing about: it's printed on a perforated vinyl that appears solid from outside (where the graphic is visible) but reads as a fine mesh from inside, letting people see out through what looks like a fully covered window from the street. It's common on storefront glass and vehicle rear windows where full-coverage branding is wanted without blocking the driver's or occupant's view entirely.
Adhesive choice depends on how long the sticker needs to stay put. Permanent adhesive suits window branding meant to last through a lease term or the life of a vehicle. A removable or repositionable adhesive is worth specifying for seasonal promotions, retail signage that changes regularly, or anything that needs to come off cleanly without leaving residue or damaging tint film. As with any glass application, it's worth confirming the surface (tempered glass, tinted film, textured glass) before finalizing material, since some films and adhesives don't perform well on certain window treatments.
This is the single decision that determines where a sticker can live. Paper label stock is the cheapest and takes ink beautifully, but it softens the first time it gets wet. Vinyl is a plastic film. It shrugs off rain, sun and scrubbing, which is why anything going outside or onto a vehicle starts here. Speciality faces (clear, reflective, fluorescent, corrugated) are chosen for one specific effect rather than for durability alone.
Paper or vinyl? Anywhere it might get wet, rubbed or sunlit, vinyl. Indoors, on a box or a folder, for one season. Paper does the job for noticeably less.
Most stickers run full color CMYK, which covers photographic artwork and the large majority of brand palettes. Two cases need more than that: a brand color that has to match exactly across reorders is run as a Pantone spot rather than approximated from process inks, and any artwork printed on a clear or metallic face needs a white ink underbase. Without it the colors go translucent and pick up whatever is behind them.
When do I need white ink? On any face that is not opaque white. Clear, metallic, or colored stock. On plain white vinyl the material is the white.
Laminate is a clear film bonded over the printed face. It is doing two jobs at once: protecting the ink from abrasion and chemicals, and filtering UV so the colors do not fade. An unlaminated vinyl sticker in direct sun will visibly shift long before the vinyl itself fails. Reds and blues go first. Gloss lifts color saturation; matte cuts glare, which matters on anything read at close range or photographed.
Is laminate optional? Indoors and short-term, yes. Outdoors it is the difference between a sticker that looks right after a summer and one that does not.
The adhesive is chosen against the surface and the intended life, and it is the layer people most often get wrong. Permanent adhesive builds its bond over roughly 24 to 48 hours and is not meant to come off cleanly. Removable is formulated to release without residue within a reasonable window. High-tack exists for surfaces that resist adhesion. Textured plastics, powder coat, corrugated board. Static cling has no adhesive at all and holds to glass by suction.
It has to come off later. What do I ask for? Say so explicitly and say what it is coming off. "Removable" from glass and "removable" from a painted wall are different products.
Glass is the one surface with two valid sides to work from, and the choice changes the product. Applied outside, it is a normal face-printed sticker exposed to weather. Applied inside, the artwork is reverse-printed so it reads correctly through the glass and the adhesive is on the printed face. Protected from rain, cleaning and tampering, but limited to a surface someone can reach from indoors.
Which side should mine go on? Inside, wherever you can reach it. It lasts longer and cannot be picked off from the street. Outside only when the interior is not accessible.
Ask for samples before committing to a material. The difference between a paper and a vinyl face is obvious in the hand and invisible on screen.
Maximizes color saturation and wipes clean, which is why it is the default on anything handled or exposed. The trade-off is glare. Under a direct light source a gloss face can be hard to read at an angle.
Scatters light instead of reflecting it, so type stays legible from any angle and the sticker photographs without hotspots. It reads as more restrained, and it takes pen and pencil where gloss does not.
A heavier film that filters ultraviolet before it reaches the ink. This is what separates a sticker that still looks right after a year outside from one that has gone pink at the edges.
Metallic foil stamped over the printed face for a single element. A logo, a border, a year. At small sizes it does more visual work than any amount of extra color, which is why it suits seals and anniversary pieces.

Inside wherever you can reach it. The glass then protects the print from weather, cleaning and anyone picking at it from the street, and the sticker lasts considerably longer. Outside application is for glass you cannot access from within.
Yes. It is reverse-printed so it reads correctly through the glass, with the adhesive on the printed face. You do not need to supply it mirrored; we handle that in prepress and show the correct orientation on your proof.
Static cling. It holds to glass by suction with no adhesive at all, peels off in seconds and can be stored flat and reused next season. It is less secure than an adhesive sticker, so it suits interior glass rather than exposed exterior surfaces.
Applied inside, easily. The cleaning happens on the other side of the glass. Applied outside, a laminated vinyl handles normal cleaning but repeated scraping at an edge will start it lifting.
Pricing for window stickers starts at $170 and moves with quantity, size, material and finish rather than sitting on a fixed list. Setup is shared across the run, so the per-unit price drops steeply as the quantity rises: the gap between a few hundred and a few thousand is usually the significant one. Send the size, quantity and what it has to do and you get a firm figure back, not a range.
There is a practical minimum rather than a hard one. Every run carries artwork checks, a proof and a press setup, so a very small quantity of window stickers prices poorly per unit even though we will still make it. If you are ordering a small batch, ask for pricing at two or three quantities at once: the curve usually shows that a modest increase costs very little more in total.
The clock starts when you approve the proof, not when the order is placed, which is the part most people are surprised by. You get a proof first: a digital proof showing the artwork, the cut line and, on clear or speciality faces, exactly where white ink sits. Nothing is printed until you approve it. On a shaped cut, the proof is the first place you see the outline the blade will actually take. Turnaround after approval depends on the finish: anything laminated, foiled or die-cut adds a stage that cannot be compressed without causing problems later. Tell us the date you actually need them and we will work backwards from it rather than quoting a generic lead time.
Yes. Inside- or outside-glass build is the standard build, and the dimensions around it are yours to set. A size that sits efficiently on the press sheet often costs no more than a standard one, while an awkward proportion that wastes half the sheet does. Ask before you commit and we will tell you whether a small change to the dimensions saves a disproportionate amount.
